The office of Premier Campbell Newman confirmed the date to Sky News Australia. Mr Newman is returning to work on Tuesday and is keen to begin campaigning as soon as possible, News Corp Australia reported earlier on Tuesday. Mr Newman arrived at Government House to seek a writ for the election this morning. He announced on Facebook that he would call an early election to help Queenslands economic recovery. The LNP government will be seeking a mandate for its plan to privatise the states port and power assets.
