Question of the Day -How will TSP locations be decided and how long do you need to stay in the location offered/accepted ? Answer- All successful candidates will be invited to submit location preferences from the locations advertised in TSP Vacancy Information Sheet. Trainees are expected to take up duty in the offered / accepted location. The trainee’s initial posting during Stage 1 (First 2 years) will be within either Local Compliance (LC) or Large Business (LB).Although located in LC or LB, trainees will gain experience working in other business areas and across tax regimes to gain a broad knowledge of how different parts of HMRC operate and how they deal with the range of taxes the Department manages at the start of Stage 2 (3rd and 4th year) trainees will specialise down a specific tax route and will placed in to a business area which provides the relevant casework and experience to meet trainee learning needs. This may be LB, LC, Specialist Investigations, Specialist Personal Tax, Counter Avoidance or any other part of HMRC where there is a business need to stream trainees in to.You usually stay in the same location for the entire programme. Once you have finished TSP, there will be the opportunity to experience different work areas as part of planning the trainee’s first Grade 7 post. Decisions on the initial Grade 7 posting will be informed by • HMRC business need, • the skills and competencies that trainees have demonstrated, and • the trainee’s preference. This will enable HMRC to best try and match skills and talents to the roles available when trainees complete the programme.
