Question: why is the clip on a car seat called a chest - TopicsExpress

Question: why is the clip on a car seat called a chest clip? Answer: because it belongs over the chest (sternum). The sternum would protect baby from the clip in event of a crash, whereas the soft internal organs in the belly would be hurt by it if its placed down by their belly button. Also makes it a lot easier for baby to be flung OUT or around in the car seat in a crash if the clip isnt where it belongs. Guess the real question is why do people always clip it over the belly? Dont give me that my baby screams if the straps arent loose or if the clip is high up. He/she would get used to it. My son doesnt like being in his car seat and cries at first but that doesnt mean Im going to do away with the car seat just because he cries. He gets used to it and I soothe him and its over with. Better than him flying out of his seat or being injured from misuse.
