One good example of this breakthrough in technology is the car power windows, it allows the driver to roll the window faster in case of an emergency, and it also allows the air to get in and out for circulation and ventilation. With so many car power windows, they are bound to mechanical failures. For some reasons, others may think that power window repair is a tough and a time consuming job, while for those handy-guys; this is just within the ability of a backyard mechanic. It is easy as long as you narrow down the possible problem and by eliminating the most obvious. The most common trouble for power window is the fuse or sometimes the wiring. The power window repair is arranged on the level of difficulty. If you the first step and diagnosis doesnt work, proceed to the next. So here are some steps for power window repair. Locate the fuse box, for most automobiles; it is located under the dashboard near the steering wheel. Open the fuse box and kindly check if there is a blown fuse. You can quickly identify it if it has a break in the metallic strip. If it has, just replace it with a new one; preferably choose the most trusted brand. Probably you might need to use a flashlight just to make sure that you installed the fuse correctly. After installing the new fuse, try to check the power window if it is back up and running again. If the power window still does not work, try to check if there are lose wiring. Tighten up the wiring if there are lose connections. Then try if the power window works. Check the window control switch and clean it if it is dirty. If the window still doesnt work, remove the whole switch control panel and check for lose connections. Tighten up everything if you find some. If that doesnt fix it, release the switch control panel, disconnect it and set aside. On this step, the manufacturers’ manual is necessary; you need to follow it to remove the plastic access panels on the car’s door. Kindly disconnect all the wiring so that you may remove the entire plastic door panel. Locate the electric window motor and regulator, while working on it, place the glass window on a closed position, and use a tape to hold it tight and to avoid it from slipping down. Test the window motor if it is properly working, and then replace it with a new one if it is necessary. Take the window regulator out of the door panel by removing the mounting bolts. Inspect it and if necessary, replace it as well. You need a perfect match from the old one if you will purchase a replacement. Install the new regulator and the motor if you have purchased a new one. Make sure to follow the manufacturer’s manual. Remove the tape from the window glass and check the window operations. If it is necessary make some adjustments before reassembling the door.
