Quick Race recap. First and foremost - I believe the course was great. The swim was nice, water temp just fine, the bike was hard enough but could have been a lot worse and the run was as good as a run could be. All my problems stem from not enough training and a bad choice on nutrition. My swim went as well as I could have expected and my bike didnt truly fall apart until 80 miles in even though the cramps began on mile 42. Oh the cramps and the nausea but mostly the cramps. It started on the right leg then the left. I recall throughout the day having cramps in every leg muscle, both sides, both hands, neck and even my jaw. I thought my nutrition plan was solid as I did the same in Tahoe and in training but clearly I lacked electrolytes. Ive been in miserable places during these events and we all need to talk ourselves out of quitting but this was the first time I was worried I couldnt finish. There simply is no shade on the bike. I was just so hot and when I tried to stop in shade my whole body would just lock up. The last time I stopped with only 8 miles to go and my right leg locked so bad I couldnt bend it. It stayed that way for what seemed like 20 minutes before I pried it against the bike to release the spasm. Ugh - I really didnt know. But I mustered through and limped into T2. Of course I was tired and beat but seeing Joanne put me back into an Iron state of mind. Theres no questioning there, no doubt, just get out there and do this! I know I say it a lot but I dont finish without her! So the run went well. At the beginning it was like every person the Boulder was out there. So much energy! So basically two thumbs up for Boulder - great course and better people. Im just an Iron idiot...
