Quick update on Cammi the poorly Highland mare. The vet and farrier got together yesterday after studying the x-rays of her feet and determining where infection was lying within the lamina of her feet. After nerve blocking and sedating the old girl the farrier removed part of the hoof wall from both front feet and cleared out a bit of a nasty mess before dressing the feet and bandaging them up. It is obviously going to take a lot of time for the hoof to grow back so Cammi will be on box rest until next year but both the vet and farrier are enormously optimistic that she will make a full recovery. Great news :-) I shall be visiting the patient at the weekend armed with mints as apparently she has been assuring everyone that they are vital to her recovery!
