Quite the eye opener! I am very picky about who and what causes I donate to. Ive done research, and if the overhead costs are more than 10%, then I dont donate! Learned that from donating through the Combined Federal Campaign while I was active duty in the military. Another good cause to donate to (especially for the military types) is the Fisher House. This allows families and patients who are at military medical facilities who dont need to be admitted to the hospital a place to stay for MINIMAL to no cost! I used this facility back in 2006 when Iwas very sick - having that benefit saved me a whole lot of trouble for the two months I was at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio. A VERY worthy cause (very similar to Ronald McDonald House!).
