Quiz: crazy EU law or made up law? New EU regulation on washing-up gloves is not the only weird EU directive. Brussels’ proposed ‘Personal Protective Equipment Regulation’ would mean that makers of washing-up gloves would have to prove that they can withstand detergent. Meanwhile, oven gloves would have to be certified to show they could withstand heat of 200°C. It is believed that the new regulations could force the price of the products up by as much as 20 per cent. The household products will in future meet the same standards as those used in professional kitchens.
