R.I.P.D. (2013) Plot: Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds star as two cops working for the Rest In Peace Department (R.I.P.D.), the greatest police force ever assembled from the spirits of the greatest cops who ever lived. Their job - protecting the living from monstrous spirits cleverly disguised as ordinary people. Wise-cracking Sheriff Roy Pulsifer (Bridges) is a veteran of the R.I.P.D. He is assigned Nick Walker (Reynolds), a rising star detective killed in his prime. The unlikely partners uncover a plot that could end life as we know it and have to work together before the earth is overcome by angry souls unwilling to face justice. Review: This movie seemed like a weak version of M.I.B., with a bad storyline and script. Jeff Bridges seems to be mumbling all the way through the movie and Ryan Reynolds dont really seemed that shocked that he is fighting against these weird looking monsters. The storyline about the whole gold thing was a bit silly and tedious in parts and the chemistry between Reynolds and Bridges should have taken up more screen time. If the director wanted to start a franchise with these characters, then this should have been the second part, not the first. The audience are supposed to grow to like the characters before you see them jumping around zapping baddies. The best character was there boss, who was a great choice for her role. In all, this is a badly made movie with a great concept. Disappointing! Round-Up: Its a shame that this movie lost so much money, because I think that a second one would be much better if they spent some more time on the characters than the monsters. The thing that worked with M.I.B. was that Will Smith was actually funny while Tommy Lee Jones done all of the hard work, but in this one Jeff Bridges is supposed to be the funny one so Ryan Reynolds seems like the moody rookie who fits into R.I.P.D. with ease, which was a bad choice by the director. In some ways, its not all bad because it gets right on with it and it doesnt waste time on unnecessary material. With the mess that Ryan Reynolds done with the Green Lantern, he is slowly becoming a unsafe bet for a movie to make any money so he needs to go back to the drawing board. Budget: $130million Worldwide Gross: $78million I recommend this movie to people who are into there M.I.B. type of movies, but no way as good. 4/10
