R.I.P. Ret. Maj. James Adam Kupets, Sr., USMC Ret. Maj. James Adam Kupets, Sr., USMC, of Rolla, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the age of 83. He was born on July 25, 1930 in Republic, Pennsylvania to John J. Kupets, Sr. and Mary (Karpus) Kupets. As a Marine, he proudly served his country in active duty and reserves for 18 years. He retired in Rolla after a career in the carbon-graphite industry. Jim will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes his wife Shirley (Casey) Kupets of Rolla, his four children and their families, Keith and Jan Kupets of Florida, Thomas and Connie Kupets of Kentucky, Kelly and Joe Carter of Rolla, James Jr. and Barb Kupets of St. Charles; 11 grandchildren, Ross and Chase Trippi-Kupets of Georgia, Lacy Musgrove of Georgia, Mallory Allen of Florida, Rick Musgrove of North Carolina, Victoria Kupets of Kentucky, Kimberly and Kory Carter of Rolla, Dawn Sabathne of Illinois, Shaun Crawford of Illinois, Jill Brussow of Rogersville; 19 great-grandchildren and W. Sue Burton, his home health aide of several years. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his seven siblings, and his grand-daughter, Christine Anne Kupets of Kentucky. As a true “giver” in life, James continued his sharing by donating his body to science at Washington University in St. Louis. He will be remembered at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. A memorial mass for James Kupets will be held in Rolla at St. Patricks Catholic Church on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Online condolences may be offered at this website.
