Sheila Stewart Sheila Stewart Obituary Guest Book - Hinton family View Sign More Photos View all 3 photos Sheila Leigh Stewart BLACKSTOCK - Sheila Leigh Stewart, 44, 5078 Tara Creek, Ellenwood, Ga. formerly of Great Fall, S.C. a pioneer in the field of journalism, is fondly remembered for her joyous spirit. Sheila departed her life on Thursday, October 24, 2013, in Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She was born in Fairfield County (Blackstock, S.C.) on February 28, 1969. She is the beloved daughter of Mrs. Dorothy Stewart and The Late Mr. Henry Stewart, Sr. A life of dedication to people, Sheila Stewart, as she was so affectionately known, was a lady filled with the desire to succeed at everything she set out to do. Not only was she a thriving leader, community activist, mentor, motivator, friend, mother, daughter, sister and much more, she was a Godly woman. She touched the lives of many and leaves a legacy to be remembered for many generations to come. A matriarch in South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland, Washington, DC and surrounding communities, Sheila will be missed, but not forgotten. Sheila is an award winning media conglomerate whose career as a Radio, TV and Print Media Personality spans over 25 years. A native of Great Falls, SC, Sheila received a BA Degree in Broadcast Journalism from Benedict College, Columbia South Carolina. She has worked as a Reporter / Anchor for CBS Affiliate WBTV News 3; Guest appearances on TV Networks NBC, ABC, Fox News; News Director for CBS Radio WPEG-FM Charlotte, North Carolina. Correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks; ABC Radio News and National News Anchor for Syndication One Radio News Networks. Sheila was the Director of News & Community Affairs, Radio One-Washington DC. Sheila taught as an adjunct Professor at Johnson C. Smith University and as an Instructor at The Chatty School of Communications. Many of her students are currently working in broadcast media all over the country. Sheila was one of the most sought after motivational speakers at schools, college/universities, churches and social groups in the DC, MD and VA areas. Sheila was a member of First Baptist Church of Glenarden, Maryland. (Pastor John and Trina Jenkins). She served in many Church and Social organizations. Sheilas accomplishments, awards, recognitions and affiliations are numerous. Professional Affiliations: National Association of Black Journalists, National Association Black Radio Programmers and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Sheila leaves to cherish her precious memories, her adorable son Jonathan Henry Russell of Atlanta, Georgia and her mother Dorothy Stewart of Blackstock, SC; four sisters: Mrs. Jacqueline (Al) Davis of Atlanta, Georgia, Mrs. Brenda (Randy) Dewese of Blackstock, SC, Mrs. Helen (Ander) Worthy of Chester, SC and Miss Gale Stewart of Lancaster, SC; three brothers: Mr. Henry Stewart Jr., Mr. Steven Stewart and Gerald Stewart all of Blackstock, SC; nine nieces and nephews: Kristi, Antonio, Katina, Kayla, Whitney, Brandon, Stephanie, Romelo and Kendrick; a host of other relatives and friends who loved her dearly; two devoted god sisters: Mrs. Vanessa Simpson of Rock Hill, SC and Miss Tiwana Young of Blackstock, SC. Sheila was preceded in death by her father the late Mr. Henry Stewart, Sr. The funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 11:00 am at The University Park Church, 6029 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, NC 28216. Burial will be at New Independent Methodist Church, Blackstock, SC. A Celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 from 6 to 8:00pm at New Independent Methodist Church. Public visitation will from 3:00 to 5:00pm at Russell-McCutchen Funeral Home, 324 S. Vanderhorst St., Winnsboro, SC 29180. In lieu of flowers donations will be accepted as follows: Bank of America, (GA) Albert W. Davis Custodian for the Benefits of Jonathan H.
