RBZ adds new currency in circulation: Four new currencies have been added to the multi-currency regime by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe in the 2014 Monetary Policy statement. The development is in line with growing trade and investment ties between Zimbabwe, China, India and Japan. Presenting her maiden monetary policy statement, Acting RBZ Governor, Dr Charity Dhliwayo said the currencies are being introduced against a background of increased trade and investment ties and in view of recommendations by the Minister of Finance and Economic Development in the 2014 national budget to include other currencies in the basket of already circulating currencies. “In this regard, we wish to advice exporters and the general transacting that they can now open accounts in Australian dollars, Chinese yaun, Indian rupee and Japan’s yen,” said Dr Dhliwayo. The currencies will complement those already in use which are the US dollar, the South African rand, the Botswana pula, British pound sterling and the euro. The central bank also re-iterated that there are no plans to re-introduce the Zimbabwean dollar.
