RE: BOOK In the spring of 1978, I asked my Superintendent if I could write a book about curriculum as a way to synthesize my music teaching experience to date (12 years) -- instead of the usual 5 graduate credits to hop up the salary scale. He said yes (shock -- but I had to take a 1 credit statistics course). So, I spent the summer going over all my handouts and plans from those first 12 years, put them in order according to type and began writing. It was a great experience. It is not a good book for anyone to read but me. Too personal. Too arrogant. Too snotty. But, I was young then. heh The penultimate sentence of the acknowledgement page ... which the Sup made me do ... it hadnt occurred to me ... was: I must also thank those nameless many whose constant harassment made me feel I might he on to something. I was 34 and a snot. Title: Synthesis: Philosophy, Quality and Music: a Re-Orientation [Copyright TXu 5-815 (hows that for arrogance?)] Part I: Synthesis and Philosophy Part II: Synthesis and Quality Part III: Synthesis and Music Part IV: Synthesis and Music Curricula (Band, Music Theory, Todays Music) -- objectives, unit structures, supplementary units, suggested units and handouts Part V: This is too embarrassing to include; I don’t want to make you gag. So I ran across the attached (a short ditty in Part I) while looking for something else and wondered what the hell it was. Oh. I remembered once I opened the file. I thought you would get a kick out of seeing this old, poorly edited, smith-corona typeface scanned badly some time ago I reckon hoot. This was my contribution to the philosophy section. Its not that I dont still believe a lot of it; I just do so more maturely and responsibly I hope. (my butt just fell on the floor) Please giggle.
