Allow me, director of ceremonies, to start by thanking His Excellency the President Lt. Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama, for allowing time in this busy period, to join us at this joyous event in celebration of the festive season. 2. Limkokwing University of Creative Technology has invited us all here to witness their Christmas gift to the nation by way of this magnificent tree before us. 3. Director of ceremonies, the Christmas holidays are once again upon us. This is a period when most of us make time to be with our families to enjoy the festive season as well as give thanks for the year that was (2014) and our contributions on all levels: personal, professional, spiritual and service to our fellow Batswana. We also reflect on the new year and its anticipated promises. You can all ask, will 2015 be a better year and what will I do better in 2015? 4. Allow me to thank Batswana for their benevolence, for it was very evident throughout the year that they continued to be a compassionate, just and caring nation, contributing to the welfare of their fellow countrymen by making donations in cash and in kind. The food hampers, clothes, donkey carts, houses to name but a few, have gone a long way in making someone’s life that much more bearable. 5. Ladies and gentlemen, as we celebrate, let us also think of those who are in difficult circumstances: in hospitals, at home recuperating or otherwise working through a difficult time in their lives, please join me in wishing them well. 6. Let us also take a moment to thank profoundly, those of our fellow citizens who will not be able to make it home to celebrate with their families because they are carrying out their essential civic duty to the nation, to you and I. To those in the health services, the Police, Defence Force, Fire Fighters to mention but a few, we acknowledge your commitment and thank you, most heartily. 7. Let me conclude by reminding you all that it is critical that we travel safely to and from our holiday destinations and that we celebrate in a responsible manner that will not compromise our safety and that of others. 8. Once again, happy holidays to you and your family. On behalf of His Excellency, the President, the Government of Botswana and my own behalf, we wish you all a merry Christmas and a bountiful New Year. Good tidings! Thank you. PULA
