REPRINTED FROM: James Casey Overton added 2 new photos. Friends and family... I dont post much on here, you all know that. Below are two pictures of my brother Willie Myers. The first is of Willie going through rehab and the second is one of him and I in Kandahar together. I had the distinct honor of working with this true American warrior during my time with Blackwater. He is the reason Im still here today after the close call I had in Kabul, and numerous others can say the same thing. He worked on the State Departments Diplomatic Security Contract in Iraq, Afghanistan, and most recently Israel as a medic for almost ten years. Prior to that he was a flight medic, swat medic, and paramedic for many years. There wasnt anything that he wouldnt do for someone that needed help, it didnt matter who they were. The reason for my post is that Willie was severely injured while working in Israel on the embassy security detail there as a security contractor for Academi. It was a catastrophic injury that almost killed him and has left him completely paralyzed. He is unable to move at all below the neck, and has to use a stylus in his mouth to answer his phone, call for assistance, or respond to emails. He was medically evacuated and is currently going through what is to be a very long recovery process at the Shepherd Spine Center in Atlanta. The injury left him with a broken neck, two crushed vertebrae, and a bruised central spinal cord, as well as a torn rotator cuff from the rescue efforts. Dont be fooled by the first picture... the machine is doing the moving for him. He undergoes a minimum of 6 hours of grueling PT EVERY day. But like the second picture shows, he is a fighter and is making gains daily but he needs 24x7 care, and will for some time. The doctors are saying it is too early to know what recovery he will be able to make. To add insult to injury, the insurance that is supposed to cover US contractors injured overseas has found some loophole to deny Willie coverage. Willie has retained an attorney who has begun the battle to fight this travesty, but as you all know that is a long battle, and meanwhile he is not getting paid the hospital bills are stacking up. I am in the beginning stages of organizing a fundraiser to help raise money for him. Stand by for more information on fundraising efforts. In the meantime, any care packages, letters, get well cards, and letters of encouragement you can send him would mean the world to him.
