RESOLUTION STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY WITH ALL PARTISANS OF THE TRUE WHIG PARTY OF LIBERIA AGAINST SEIZURE OF THE E.J. ROYE BUILDING BY THE UNITY PARTY GOVERNMENT HEADED BY PRESIDENT ELLEN JOHNSON-SIRLEAF. FROM AND ON BEHALF OF: ALL TWP PARTISANS IN THE UNITED STATES. WHEREAS, Government is a trust and the officers of government are trustees. Both the trust and the trustees are elected by the people to serve and protect them at all times; and WHEREAS, The present Government of Liberia (GOL), at all levels, has failed to perform adequately for the benefit of the majority of the Liberian people; and WHEREAS, Liberians at home and abroad who are paying attention, can see the corruption and ineffective leadership that are far too prevalent in the GOL and the present political system in our country; and WHEREAS, We, the TWP partisans in the United States are pragmatic, common sense and modern partisans who are continually developing the TWP into a party where rational solutions and integrity trump old ideas and impunity that are still being pursued by the present GOL; and WHEREAS, The TWP partisans in Liberia and the United States have sprung up as a reaction to ill-conceived pubic policy that does not represent the will of the Liberian people but is an impediment to their progress to become an empowered and engaged electorate that can approach issues with an open mind without prior prejudice; and WHEREAS, The TWP partisans in the United States are working to provide supporting resources to rebuild, reload and re-launch the great ideas, ideals and policies of the True Whig Party of Liberia; and WHEREAS, In furtherance of their ill-conceived designs, on November 11, 2013, the GOL employed force and intimidation to seize the E.J. Roye Building on Ashmun Street in Monrovia, the national headquarters of the True Whig Party. This illegal act was done without due process by personnel of the General Services Agency (GSA), backed up by a large squad of officers from the Liberia National Police and the Executive Protective Service; and WHEREAS, The GOL has not issued any official public statement on its actions. However, the deputy minister for economic affairs at the Ministry of Justice, Benedict Sannoh, and the GSA director, Mary Broh, have both stated off the record that the GOL is using a 34-year old Degree instituted by the Peoples Redemption Council (PRC) following the 1980 coup détat which overthrew the TWP Government; and WHEREAS, There are several contradictions in the GOLs action. it claims that it is confiscating the building as its property rights relying on PRC Decree 11. At the same time, the GOL has admitted that it made a deal with some individuals of the TWP worth several hundred thousand United Stated dollars for the privilege of confiscating the building. These same individuals recently published in a local newspaper that they had leased the building for US$130,000.00 (presumably to the GOL). This disclosure has infuriated the Ministry of Justice which had preferred that its deal with these individuals remained secret; and WHEREAS, Contrary to speculation, the E.J. Roye building has not been sold to the GOL and neither was it turned over by the popular will of the majority of True Whig Party partisans. The GOL has cleverly manipulated an illegal process to confiscate the legitimate property of an opposition political party institution using a draconian military Decree that has no place in a democratic society. Besides, the PRC, under this Decree, did seize the real estate of individuals and other entities but did not retain/keep them; Now, therefore BE IT RESOLVED That we, the True Whig Party Partisans in the United States hereby give our fullest support and cooperation to the True Whig Party to overcome this unnecessary, unwarranted and inexcusable obstacle ; and be it further RESOLVED, That the True Whig Party partisans in the United States stand with the True Whig Party to challenge the GOL to come clean and inform the Liberian people why it is using taxpayers money to bribe individuals for the purpose of confiscating the E.J. Roye building which it claims it already owns. We also challenge the GOL to show cause why it believes that it is sensible at this time in our history to use a 34-year old military Decree to seize by force the national headquarters of the True Whig Party which is recognized by the National Elections Commission, March 10, 2014
