RIP WAUCONDA POLICE OFFICER ERIC SCHULTZ #113 02/29/1984 - 03/09/2014 Eulogy for Fallen Heroes The only certainty in a heros life is that it could end at any moment. As heroes, we cannot banish dangers, but we can banish fears. We mustnt demean life by standing in awe of death. Death is no more than a turning of us over from time to eternity. Eternity…such a small word to describe such a haunting vastness. And so, we ask ourselves: will our actions echo across the centuries? Will strangers hear our names long after were gone and know who we were? The heroes who have lost their lives in battle will not soon be forgotten. Those of us who knew them best will tell stories of their bravery, their heroism, and their sacrifice. We will talk of how they stood by us through thick and thin, and how we saved each others lives more than a few times. We will carry the memory of those heroes, our friends, in our hearts forever, we will celebrate their lives, and we will cherish the memories of their fierce loyalty, unwavering convictions, and deep, faithful love. Those heroes are gone from this life, but they are not forgotten; they will live on within us. Death is not the end of their story, merely the next chapter. They have taken their place in Elysium, and will spend eternity with those whose hearts are brave and good, just like their own. Knowing these heroes has made us better people, and for that, we should be grateful. Their memory will live on through us, and it is our privilege and responsibility to ensure they are remembered forever for how honorably they lived, how bravely they fought, and how fiercely they loved.
