RIVERS GUBER: MUAZU TACTICALLY ENDORSES WIKE’S CANDIDATURE — Oct 14, 2014 National chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mallam Ahmadu Adamu Muazu yesterday tactically endorsed the aspiration of the minister of state for education, Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike to contest the 2015 governorship election in Rivers State on the platform of the party. The tactical endorsement came barely 24 hours after the minister vowed that no amount of intimidation would make him back out if he decides to run for the governorship seat on the platform of the PDP in 2015. Muazu, who spoke while addressing members of the party at the party headquarters in Port Harcourt, said Wike is committed to the cause of the party and has been a source of unity of purpose within the party in the state and at the national level. He said, “I want to tell you that having heard what I have heard, having seen with my two eyes what I have seen, Wike, you are on course. I am by no means pre-empting the wish of your people (PDP members); you will determine that yourself. By the grace of God, we will be the next occupants of the Brick House (Rivers State Government House)”. WIKE’S QUEST FOR POWER WILL DESTROY PDP IN RIVERS STATE – NDRO Meanwhile, the Niger Delta Renaissance Organisation (NDRO) has told the national leadership of the PDP that the desperation for power by Barr. Nyesom Wike will destroy the party in Rivers State if not checked. The group said the party must act fast to checkmate the violence which the camp of the minister is unleashing on party faithful in the state. A statement signed by the director of mobilisation, NDRO, Rivers Chapter, Comrade Israel Obodo said Rivers State has overgrown the politics of violence which the camp of the minister is plunging the party into as evident in the show of shame at Legacy House, Abuja. The group said Rivers people are highly respected in the country as gentlemen and wondered why the quest for power by an individual should hold the state to ransom. It said, “It is regrettable that other states came and concluded their reconciliation exercise peacefully while Rivers State which should have been in the forefront of setting a good example as a leading South South state ended up embarrassing the state and giving room for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to make mockery of our great party” The group said the coming primaries of the PDP should not be seen as a do-or-die affair. It said Wike’s camp must come off the assumption that anybody against his ambition is automatically an opposition member or traitor. The organisation said Wike should be grateful because as the highest beneficiary of the party in the state, he holds it as a duty to see that the party does not disintegrate due to his overbearing hunger for power. Muazu urged members of the party in the state to remain loyal and committed to the cause of the party as the PDP will surely win the governorship election in Rivers State and return President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015. He said, “Distinguished members of our party, I want to continue to encourage you to remain steadfast, to remain strong, to remain committed, to remain loyal to our party, you are in the right party. May the grace of Almighty God, we will retain, maintain our strength in Rivers State and Nigeria. One of you will be in Brick House by the grace of God come 2015, and your son that is our leader by the grace of God, will remain where he is in the Aso Villa.” In his speech, the minister of state for Education, Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike, assured the party’s national chairman that the PDP remained one in the state and would surely win the presidency and the governorship election in the state come 2015. Earlier in his welcome address, chairman of PDP in the state, Chief Felix Obuah, said with the help of the party’s integration and reconciliation committee, a lot of aggrieved members of the party, who returned have been fully integrated into the party’s fold.
