ROMA HOLOCAUST EXCLUSION A SCANDAL Dear Ms Kimberly Mann, I - TopicsExpress

ROMA HOLOCAUST EXCLUSION A SCANDAL Dear Ms Kimberly Mann, I write to you as one of the earlier researchers into the Nazi genocide against Roma (and Sinti), being the co-author with Dr Donald Kenrick of Destiny of Europes Gypsies (1972). I translated the book later into Romanes under the title Bersa Bibahtale (Years of Misfortune). Also I write as an activist in the Romani movement for the past 50 years. One campaign I was very much involved with was that to get the US Holocaust Commission to appoint a Rom representative which for a time they did. But as with the UN Holocaust Commemoration, it is beyond belief and reason that the Romani nation, now over 20 million strong around the world and recognized as part of the Indian Diaspora, does not have a permanent place in the UN Commemoration. How many Roma had to died, and in what filth and misery, before such recognition and remembrance is due? I request, nay demand, an answer in the form of an assurance that this omission will not happen again. Meanwhile I hope that friends and colleague will picket this years event as we did the Capitol back in the 1980s when a member of the US Commission called it a cockamamie idea to include Roma. Surely, the UN can do better. Grattan Puxon 8 April Movement Europe Roma Network former general secretary of the International Romani Union dale.farm@btinternet
