ROYAL MAIL LAUNCH SUNDAY SERVICE IN SHEFFIELD The Royal Mail is to trial a Sunday collection service in Sheffield to tackle the boom of online shopping. The initiative is designed to make it easier for online shoppers to collect parcels if they are not at home during weekdays. At present, delivery offices are open from Monday to Friday as well as Saturday mornings and often people complain about lengthy queues. Sheffield’s south east delivery office on Pit Lane, off Mansfield Road, and north delivery office on Chapel Street, Woodhouse, will be open from Sunday from 12pm to 4pm. Royal Mail operations director Rob Jenson said he was ‘delighted to pilot’ the scheme and to ‘provide more options for people to receive items they have ordered online’. The move is the latest in a series of initiatives designed to help with the delivery of more than one billion parcels a year. Last month, the Royal Mail revealed its ‘click and collect’ service where customers can collect items from post offices. In June the group’s express delivery service Parcelforce Worldwide launched a Sunday delivery service for online shoppers. Royal Mail Group’s CEO Moya Greene said they were improving flexibility.
