RT The General Assembly affirms that the same rights that people have offline must also be protected online, in particular the right to privacy, the draft resolution calling for internationally recognized rights to privacy in the wake of the ongoing NSA scandal said. It also expressed concern at human rights violations and abuses that may result from the conduct of any surveillance of communications, including extraterritorial surveillance of communications. [So in the US the policy is we have No Expectation of Privacy, and email has nothing like the protection once afforded first class mail against govt or other spying. But in the Emerging Economies and the rest of the world, they are saying that without privacy democracy means nothing and that everyone has the same natural human rights online as offline. If this became policy in the US, millions of shady people would be out of work tomorrow, and in possession of our passwords. SO dont expect that. Expect the US to go on the same way, and buy time, first arguing that they are doing nothing, then that they are doing something but it does not matter, then that they were doing something that mattered but surely it doesnt matter now that they have stopped, then that they have not stopped but they prevented another shoe bomber, etc etc. They will bullshit and backpedal for a decade or more while actually going nuts with spying, kidnapping, torture. Soon the culture of business /government corruption will infect the above-the-law parts of the government, and government agents will be kidnapping and torturing Americans to benefit companies. Then it will be to help foreign companies. This will go on till they run out of money. Maybe I should move somewhere that believes in human rights.]
