RUN MONASH MEMBER PROFILE Chris Allan 1. Age: 45 2. A brief background: As you can see from the picture I’ve been through some changes. At the age of 18 I was a skinny fella that played Pennant Squash and had just started Rover Scouts, after being a Scout from the age of 8. Over the next 14 years I drank, smoked & partied like there was no tomorrow, then at the age of 32 and topping out at 105kg, we had our first child, it was time to give up the party life and took over my mums gym membership that she wasn’t using. Well one addiction, smoking, led to another, sport and after I got to a point of attending the gym 7 days a week, sometimes twice a day, it lead me down the path of Ironman. Looking back I don’t regret any of it, just thank goodness I found fitness when I did. 3. How long have you been a RunMonash member? Daniel and I figure we started in 2004 myself in November Daniel a few months before. So nearly 10 years for me. 4. Favourite run session? Definitely the Mona Fartlek session, it hurts like hell but you feel great afterwards. 5. Favourite place to run? Only recently discovered late last year that Ferny Creek is nearly the best place on earth for a runner, but also love the Alpine area around Bright, Victoria, including Falls Creek just as much, also for its cycling. 6. Favourite song/music to run to? (or sounds of nature) Up at Ferny Creek, Nature, anywhere around home Skrillex. 7. Favourite food? Banana Smoothies and Dark Chocolate 8. What motivates you to continue running? I would have first said addiction, but after all the lonely running I’ve done for Ironman, it’s now become the people I run with each week and the fact I don’t ever want to go back to 105kg. 9. What is your running goal for 2014? As close to 3 hours as I can get for the Melbourne Marathon. 10. Any general comments about your involvement in RunMonash: RunMonash is a very special group close to my heart, considering I’ve been there nearly since its inception, I love the way it doesn’t discriminate against any ability of runner, it motivates!!
