RUN MONASH MEMBER PROFILE Daniel Jitnah 1. Age: 51 2. A brief background: I am an independent IT Consultant, and operate particularly in the open source area - pretty much anything IT related goes. (ask me if you want to know more!) I have been in the IT field for over 25 yrs, but had a short stint as a School Teacher. I was born in Mauritius and came to Monash Uni for studies and have stayed ever since!! 3. How long have you been a RunMonash member? As a matter of fact when you read this profile it would be about exactly 10 yrs or very close!. I started running around this time of the year (spring) in 2004. … actually at that time RunMonash did not even exist! 4. Favourite run session? I dont have a favourite one. I like the variety and it depends on my mood at the time whether I enjoy it better or not. One thing though, I like to have different shoes for the lake and for the grass! So if I have the right runners when we do the lake, it makes me feel better! 5. Favourite place to run? Same as 4 above: variety. But Jells Park is a nice place 6. Favourite song/music to run to? (or sounds of nature) ..uhmmm I have to pass on that ! 7. Favourite food? Eggplant in any form! - Did you know that eating 40kg of eggplant gives you the same amount of nicotine as smoking one cigarette! So I reckon it would take me about 5 yrs to smoke a cigarette in eggplant eating terms!! – Now you know why I like it! I try to eat healthy and cheaply!! and if I cook it, its my favourite. 8. What motivates you to continue running? Honestly … dont really need any. Tuesday (and Sat) runs are just part of my weekly normal routine. In some ways my week runs around my running! Its not unknown that I have refused to attend important meetings if it meant I would have had to miss a Tuesday run. 9. What is your running goal for 2014? I have given up on that – when I got unwell in August, I realised I would not meet my goal! :( - but there is next year! 10. Any general comments about your involvement in RunMonash: I think its the activity that I have been involved in regularly for the longest time so far in my life. (except professional) I remember started running first time and I could just get half way through the warm up lap, before I had to stop. But I came back the following week and never stopped again. I have seen the time (pre Trevor!) when we had may be 6-7 regulars and anything more that 10 would be WOW!! .. But Chris Alan was almost always in there somewhere!! There was a day when in 40+ heat, it was just 3 of us (Radha and Graham Jenkins) and we did a lap in the shade around the campus, up Blackburn Rd and round the back. I also remember the day we had hail while doing the lake circuit.... and have experienced everything in between! We had 2 coaches before Trevor (Mark and Jean Paul – in fact Mark started the group in 2004.) - Mark made us do the staircase up the Menzies building!! (4-5 times: 12 floors) Jean Paul: Fartlek sessions, but unlike with Trevor, we were allowed to stand, walk around during recovery! I think when Trevor (not sure which year: 2007-2008??) arrived we were at about 15-20 … and we started to grow!! By far my best experience is that I have only met exceptionally nice people – possibly 200-300? in the group. I have never seen any unfriendly attitude – never! - Trevor is the best person to get the niceness and the best out of everyone!
