Rabbi Beth says, ALL GOOD CHOICES Study of sacred text is a transformative spiritual practice within Jewish tradition. It instills inspiration and creates a special consciousness of G-d’s presence which “speaks through” the text. As Rabbi Steinsaltz says, “study [of sacred texts] is heaven.” Study is enhanced by chevruta (spiritual study partner or group). Another practice is being mindful that the Holy One is ever present and cares about what we do or say. This awareness makes me conscious my actions, speech and thoughts and even my choice to pay attention or ignore something. Awareness creates connection with G-d and people. It instills respect for life. Finally, as clergy, one endeavors to support their community in whatever ways they need. Talmud says, “I have learned much from my teachers, more from my colleagues, and most from my students.” It’s a blessing to create and become part of a spiritual community that consciously chooses a positive path.
