Radical Unschooling is not un-parenting. Radical Unschoolinng is not lazy, neglectful, or permissive. In fact Radical Unschooling is very much hands on. Radical Unschooling is allowing a child the freedom to make decisions concerning other areas of their life, not just in education. Radical Unschooling is respecting your child as a person and not seeing yourself as their authority figure that has to control every area of their life. Radical Unschooling is the idea that despite what mainstream media says you can be your childs friend. You are also their older, more experienced mentor and because you are their hanging out with them and talking to them and experiencing life right along side them they trust and listen to what you have to say because they know you are not pushing your agenda on them but you are speaking from your heart and you have their best interest in mind. Radical Unschooling leads by example and not arbitrary rules. Radical Unschooling doesnt mean you never say no but it does mean that when your child hears it they dont get angry because they know if you do say it there must have been a good reason. Radical Unschooling recognizes that a child is not your property but their own person and should have basic freedoms as so, like when to go to bed, what to eat, and how much screen time they want to watch. Our homes are unconventional and fun and yes sometimes chaotic but that does not mean our parenting is unintentional or uninvolved or free for all. *Unschooling Momma*
