Rae Sremmurdis an American hip hopduo, composed of Swae Lee (born June 7, 1993) [ 1 ]and Slim Jimmy (born December 29, 1995) [ 2 ]from Tupelo, Mississippi. They are perhaps best known for their single No Flex Zone, which has so far peaked at number 36 on the US Billboard Hot 100chart. [ 3 ] [ 4 ]Similarly, their song No Type has peaked at number 17 on the Hot 100 in November 2014. They are based in Atlanta, Georgia. [ 5 ] Rae Sremmurd is Ear Drummers backwards, which is the name of their home label. [ 6 ] Early life Khalif Brown and Aaquil Brown grew up in Tupelo, Mississippi. According to an interview by Complex, at a point in their life they were homeless. [ 7 ] Career 2012–13: Career beginnings andEarDrummers Entertainment Before they became Rae Sremmurd, they were in a trio going by the name of Dem Outta State Boyz which used to upload videos to social media like YouTubeand song to Reverbnat ion, looking for recognition. They first became noticed by P-Nasty when his cousin had told him about them. P-Nasty had called them telling them he was interested in their music, and for them to make more music and get a video ready. Swae Lee had said, according to an article from Vice: P-Nasty had called us, he was like yo, drop what yall doing were about to start doing this music real heavy. Drop what yall doing and come to Atlanta. [ 8 ] After months of recording and practicing, they went to Atlanta to produce their first song with Mike Will Made Itcalled I Dip, and later produced a second song called We. Neither of them received much attention. 2014–present:No Flex Zone,No Type, mainstream recognition andSremmLife On May 14, 2014, Rae Sremmurd released their single No Flex Zone which gained media attention after an official remix done by Nicki Minajand Pusha T, and later got popular in the US Charts, raising to #36 on Billboard Hot 100.
