Railroads in the US have forever been hiring and leasing - TopicsExpress

Railroads in the US have forever been hiring and leasing locomotives. Australia has been no different, especially when State Governments sold off their freight business to private operators. When GWRRs, ARG secured a contract with Manildra Flour Mills (MFM) in 2003 things started off swimmingly, until it got busy. Once the failures started or extra trains were added, we were in strife. The blokes doing engine rosters were pulling whats left of their hair out but, thankfully knew people in the right places, including those in the preservation scene. Third unit, 4486 had long passed into preservation, but thankfully for ARG it was available and operable to help GM44, CLP12 and 3101 on a flour train at MFM namesake town of Manildra in September 2005.
