Raise you hand if you ever had a bath on the porch in a number 3 - TopicsExpress

Raise you hand if you ever had a bath on the porch in a number 3 wash tub. Neither of my grandparents had bathrooms in their homes, so have to raise mine. Seems odd to think about from todays daily shower perspective, but daily baths were far from the norm not all that long ago. In that old wash tub, water was shared between kids. It was a laborious and time consuming process to heat water on a wood stove and get it out on the porch, so each kid didnt get his/her own. Im sure you have read the old adage that on Saturday bath nights, Dad went first, then Mama and then the kids from oldest to youngest. The baby was last and by then the water might be just a little murky. You didnt want to lose little twinkle toes in there, thus the saying, Dont throw the baby out with the bath water.
