Ramadan Begins Today – Sultan— June 28, 2014 The Sultan of Sokoto and President General,Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs(NSCIA) Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III yesterdayurged the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria tocommence their fast today, Saturday, June28, 2014, following the sighting of the moonin various parts of Nigeria. The Sultan who assured earlier that a formalannouncement would be made immediatelythe moon is sighted, spoke through theChairman, Advisory Committee on ReligiousAffairs of the Sultanate Council, Prof.Junaidu Sambo. According to him, the moonwas sighted in Kebbi, Sokoto and other partsof the country. “There was delay in the confirmationbecause we were waiting and doing analysisto collate all our sources information. Themoon was sighted in Kebbi, Sokoto, Katsinaand other parts of the country and therefore,the Sultanate Council is hereby calling on allMuslim faithful in Nigeria to commencefasting today being Saturday as the first dayof Ramadan,” the Sultan explained
