Randall - They did it again. As if the Citizens United - TopicsExpress

Randall - They did it again. As if the Citizens United decision four years ago wasn’t harmful enough to our democracy, last month the Supreme Court issued another ruling that weakens our nation’s campaign finance rules and opens the floodgates further. The course that the Supreme Court is charting only gives shadowy groups and powerful corporations an even louder megaphone in a system that is already badly broken. It’s up to Congress to act now to return power in our elections to where it belongs: everyday Americans. Click here to add your name to a growing movement calling on Congress to overturn Citizens United and fix our broken campaign finance system. Campaign finance reform may not make the headlines every day, but it is an issue that underpins almost every other debate. That’s why I’ve been a loud advocate for meaningful reforms here in New York and nationally that will reduce the power of corporate money in politics and give everyday New Yorkers a stronger voice in our political system. I’m proud that my campaign does not accept contributions from corporate PACs. If we’re going to make progress on the critical issues facing us as a nation, we need to make sure all of our elected officials are accountable to us — not special interests and powerful corporations. Of course, there are some who don’t want to see this happen. The Koch brothers have already spent more than $35 million this cycle attacking candidates across the country, with plans to spend a whole lot more before November. The Kochs and others like them are perfectly happy with the current system – one that gives them the ability to flood the airwaves in district after district with false attack ads. With the Supreme Court showing no signs of reversing course, it’s up to Congress to act now to protect our democracy. Will you join me in sending this message to Congress? Click here to sign on and join a growing movement across the nation calling on Congress to overturn Citizens United immediately. Together, our voices are stronger.
