Randall, Michigan Republicans will do anything to avoid giving hardworking families a living wage. In their efforts to prevent a meaningful minimum wage increase—something the majority of Michiganders support—theyve proposed raising it to just $8.15. That would do nothing to help struggling families lift themselves out of poverty and join the middle class. This proposal is just a desperate political maneuver to try and make the issue go away. When Gov. Rick Snyder said last fall that raising the minimum wage wasnt a significant issue, he captured the GOPs true intentions when it comes to helping these workers. Join me today in telling the Legislature to reject this politically motivated proposal and instead work with Democrats to pass a real increase to the minimum wage. Snyder has consistently rejected our call to increase the minimum wage, even as he gave huge pay raises to his top administration officials. One got a 90 percent raise and is now making a salary of $333,000, which is being paid by Michigan taxpayers. A substantive increase to the minimum wage will help our economy by giving families more to spend on things like gas, groceries and clothes for their kids. And when demand increases, businesses grow.
