Randy Carlyle must be Relinquished of his Duties By Paramveer Singh Virk on March 22, 2014@TheLeafsNews (Mandatory Credit: picstopin) (Mandatory Credit: picstopin) “The Toronto Maple Leafs would like to announce that head coach Randy Carlyle has been relinquished of his duties.” Sound familiar? Probably not, because it is something we are yet to hear and something that every Leafs fan hopes comes true very soon . Some will say that people seem to praise the coaching when the Maple Leafs excel in their duties, but put blame on the coaching and ask for a replacement when they struggle. The truth is Randy has to go whether the Leafs may be winning or losing. One will fail in any task when their will to succeed is broken or they become spoiled. Previous head coach Ron Wilson was spoiling the Maple Leafs by not talking to the team after a loss and bringing the teams morale down. Now Randy Carlyle is treating the players like crap and literally pissing them off to the point they no longer wish to be a part of the Maple Leafs squadron. In the past two seasons, two players in specific were not very amused about remaining with the Maple Leafs and expressed bitter comments towards their head coach following their departure from Toronto. The Maple Leafs used their compliance buyout last season on forward Mikhail Grabovski, along with defenceman Mike Komisarek, due to their huge contracts with limited production and the teams little cap space. After Mikhail Grabovski was bought out he didn’t exactly say the nicest of things about the head of their coaching staff. “I play in the [expletive] Russian KHL, I make lots of [expletive] points and what’s going to happen? He makes me [expletive] play on the fourth line and he put me in the playoffs on the fourth line and third line again,” Grabovski said. “Yeah, I don’t score goals. I need to work more about that. I know that. But if you feel support from your coach [youll find success]. I don’t feel any support from this [expletive] idiot.” (Via James O’Brien [ProHockeyTalk]) Grabovski admitted that he was struggling. If the coach supports him he will find success, anyone would find success in that case, but he never did get that support from Carlyle. He was only demoted to the 3rd and 4th lines with the checking roles. We know he was a tough player, but his true place was in the top 6 group. The other player who expressed his true emotions regarding Carlyle was forward Clarke MacArthur. “I didn’t have a relationship (with him) and not many guys do,” MacArthur told sportsnet.ca. “It’s one of those things where he runs the show there and everyone knows that and that’s the way it is. “It’s worked for him in the past, he’s got a (Stanley) Cup from that, but at the same time there’s other ways to do things, too.” (Via Pat Iversen [SBNation]) Clarke MacArthur also said that that many know about Carlyle’s relationship with Bobby Ryan in Anaheim and it wasn’t exactly a great one. Recently similar issues seem to be surfacing in hockey’s capital. He also stated an important problem, the fact that not many guys seem to have a good relationship with Carlyle. Wait a coach doesn’t a have a player-coach relationship with his players? Then what good is Carlyle as a coach? Seems like Carlyle has not been treating the players fairly and at the present moment goaltender James Reimer would be another one of them. After the Leafs found themselves down 3-1 during the 2nd period in one of their games, Randy Carlyle decided to replace Reimer with Jonathan Bernier and clearly Reimer was not at all amused by the decision, nor were the fans and the media. Reimer gave Randy the sour look which had clearly shown that he was angry with Carlyle. Do you pull the goalie when his defenders are not performing well (which has been a major problem throughout the season when either one of Bernier or Reimer are guarding the net)? Recently, after the Maple Leafs 3-2 loss to the Detroit Red Wings Randy Carlyle made a pretty rough statement about James Reimer: “I thought he was okay, you know,” Carlyle said. “Just okay.” Reimer’s response? “So he said I was just okay?” Reimer said. “I thought I was good. I don’t know if I was great, and I would like to be great, but I thought I made some good saves when I needed to.” (Via Bruce Arthur [National Post]) Reimer is right when he says he thought he played great. Why would you blame the goalie when the ones to truly blame are the Maple Leafs defenders? Reimer’s agent, Ray Petkau, pretty much cleared it all up with a tweet he posted after the Media questioned James Reimer: “As is customary in Toronto, when your team plays poor defensively game after game you blame your goalie.” (Via Bruce Arthur [National Post]) The truth will always hurt and whether you believe it or not Ray is right, whenever the team struggles we blame our goalies, whenever our players struggle we blame our goalies and whenever our defence struggles we also blame our goalies. The problem doesn’t lie within our goaltending but in our coaching staff. Clearly the players, current and past, are not happy with Carlyle. Some have stated their opinions and others may soon follow. Randy is breaking a lot of our players, thus a replacement is needed as soon as possible. Leafs nation desperately awaits some changes!
