[Rant] How about a war on Moderation next? After reading that - TopicsExpress

[Rant] How about a war on Moderation next? After reading that TIME magazine has at long last, backpedalled over the whole saturated fat thing, with the article claiming that we have reached the end of the war on fat, I went to the google in search of peoples responses to this revelation. I was disappointed. What I hoped for was some kind of publicity for the real mechanisms behind fat and diabetes(or at least what we know as of today), some articles were sufficiently honest, many simply preached moderation and cutting out of processed foods without actually explaining what either of these things were. One even attempted to debunk the idea by pointing out that calorie consumption had gone up, and seeming to suggest that should be looked at as the cause instead. Clearly they have missed the point, but not to worry. I am tired of hearing about moderation. Moderation: the word that makes any arbitrary quantity seem harmless or indeed harmful. A black hole designed to suck the intellect out of any discussion. Certainly, people should eat what they want yada yada yada, but im not talking about controlling people. When someone actually wants FACTS, and you tell them that Moderation is key, you are being un-help-ful. Same with balance. A balanced diet, who can argue with that, whatever that is? More wordplay, another comfortable soundbite to shut up someone who is actually trying to use their brain. And processed food. Its probably one of the better pieces of dogma in existence, but it is NOT scientific, and it pays no mind to actual causes. It is a moderately(hah!) effective catch-all, but its definitely not an explanation. I believe people deserve explanations, and we must settle for nothing less as a race if we are to progress. I also believe that given the aggressive food marketing practices which will surely follow any great revelation that garners widespread attention, we must arm people who want to know with REAL knowledge, not just soundbites, so that they may attack these forces with the surgical precision necessary to make good choices. Id like to believe food companies wont twist such soundbites to some ill-gotten advantage, I really would... Rant over. I am sorry if I have offended anyone. reddit/r/keto/comments/2ag8nl/rant_how_about_a_war_on_moderation_next/
