Rather amusing but fearful encounter as the officer is armed. Thank you Andre Young Dealing with police, for most people, is a harassing situation that often makes them tense. Ten steps I use if I get pulled over by the police, (rare and usually for stupid things like a broken tail light or similar). One...Keep your cool, be calm and clear without any sudden movements. Try to pull over to a brightly lit area if possible at night. Two...Never roll your window down fully. Three...Always keep your door locked even if asked to exit the vehicle, take the keys and re-lock the door. (Prevents entry to your vehicle and search without your consent). Four...If a police officer does not seem coherent, acts suspiciously, or does not display their credentials call 911 and have them dispatch an officer or supervisor. Five...Do not flee unless your life is in danger. Six...Do not ever consent to searches or seizures including going through your pockets or vehicle. Seven...Let the officer explain why they pulled you over or ask directly. Do not ever admit guilt of a crime even if you were obviously in the wrong. Eight...Ask if you are being detained or are free to leave. Nine...If handcuffed or detained ask to speak to a lawyer and do not say another word. Ten...Try to remember as much of the encounter, record the situation if available. It is legal in 48 states to openly record an on-duty police officer save in Massachusetts and Illinois where you have to let the officer know, and have their consent, that you are recording. Use a program like Bambuser for smart phones, put a hot button on your front main screen, and set to stream upload to the internet immediately but still can automatically set the video to private, just in case your phone is confiscated.
