Re: the reported death of actor Robin Williams, I just saw a comment that really struck a nerve: Please let it not be suicide. *Why?* How is that worse than if he had died from cancer or heart disease? _Depression and related psychological illnesses are real conditions_ and ones no less serious and sadly as frequently deadly as those other more physical diseases. And whereas some of the latter might result from lifestyle choices for which an individual might be blamed, if one really were so insensitive as to wish to assign blame, depression strikes indiscriminately. It really ticks me off that in these supposedly enlightened times someone would consider death from suicide somehow ignoble... Such notions should have been left behind along with other outdated religiously-driven notions of sin. Today a bright light of our culture was unexpectedly extinguished, and the exact circumstances of his passing should not alter the magnitude of that tragedy.
