Re-worked, this book describes Janets early years in Los Angeles after she arrives from Georgia to pursue her PhD in Theater History at UCLA. While waiting to establish residency, she tries to break into the film industry as an actress. She is married to an attorney. They have three small children. This volume is filled with her daily struggles as she tries to adjust to life on a different scale from anything she has ever known in the deep south. There is a shift in emphasis also as Janet realizes that she is expected to remain the traditional wife and mother to her husband and young children while struggling to break into a demanding industry that requires new skills and techniques. Sensitive and introspective, the Journal is Janets stream of consciousness, depicting the thoughts and feelings which pass through her mind as she tries to adjust to life in LA. It is an interior monologue between what she wants to do, is obsessed to do, and thinks she ought to do.
