Read Kennedy Friday wrote : PEOPLES POWER Governor Amaechi was driving past the Airport Road, Port Harcourt, when he saw a sea of multitude gathered. He came down from his car-as only Amaechi would, of course- and asked the throng of supporters, whats happening here? And they told him Mbu, notorious Gestapo Rivers Commissioner of Police, ordered his men to block and lock the airport gate to prevent us from showering the visiting APC stalwarts in characteristic Rivers hospitality Chagrined, Amaechi picked up his phone from his pocket with gusto, dialled Mbus number and told him so you ordered your men to lock the airport gate against Rivers people? That cannot stand. Momentarily, the Governor of Rivers State became a commander of the peoples salvation army. He led the multitude, roaring with a mighty voice, move in! And like a faithful troop, the multitude surged like a mighty, unstoppable ocean, forced the airport gate ajar, and rushed in, with the Governor right at the front. Before you could say Jack, the multitude burst into singing, much like the American Negroes did free at last, free at last, thank God we are free at last. Well, they didnt actually use that lyrics, but the spirit with which they sang bore testament to what happened in America! And make no mistake about it, Governor Amaechi marched about 5 kilometres, leading the triumphant multitude straight into the heart of the airport. The scene spoke of the deeds of a victorious army! And the police, the oppressors, the incubators of impunity, the excavators of the Abacha days, the harbingers of chain and death and agony, the sadists and the adversaries of Rivers people, of freedom...they all looked perplexed and powerless, even with their instruments of death and harassment and intimidation, as the people unleashed their power. The gates of hell broke lose! So the Governor, singing with his people, and leading them, marched in triumphantly to accord the APC visitors out-of-this-world, thunderous welcome. The Rivers hospitality unleashed. Rivers bravery displayed. Never will Rivers State be a versailles State. Never will people from Bayelsa, or anywhere else in Nigeria, remote what happens in our own Rivers of possibilities! When peoples power is brought to the fore, the gates of hell, of oppression, of limitation, of suppression, cannot prevail. For those who love freedom, today provided a peep into the future! There, there, there is the way to go henceforth
