Read the newspaper yesterday. My heart sank as the pages unveil parts of what typhoon Yolanda left to the people in Tacloban, Eastern Visayas, Iloilo and Cebu. Stories of living people walking among the dead (as corpses lie bare on the streets) and children holding up signboards with help us or we dont have any rice nor water were some of the highlights of the paper. Amidst the painful news, a column written by Loreen Sarmiento caught my attention. She quoted a verse from Hosea 1:2 which says, The whole country has become a whorehouse, unfaithful to me. On her article she wrote these words, Is our unfaithfulness bearing down on Gods patience? Are the recent calamities (earthquakes,diseases,floods,fires,sinking ships, sink holes, etc.) His strong reminders for the people to go on their knees and acknowledge Him as the one true power in this world? The story of Hosea is story of unconditional love. The storm Yolanda is a call for Gods mercy and love for us. It is our turn now to turn to God not only in this ime of adversity but for life. Gods love is greater than what Hosea showed to Gomer. He will see us through until we come face to face with Him in the final days. She ended her article with this line, I dread storms but if it is the only way to make me take stock of my nothingness before God, I wil face it with humiity and repentance for what I have not done well. Maybe typhoon Yolanda is Gods loud call for us to turn back to Him and stop chasing other lovers as Gomer did. He desires for us to be His bride. He wants us to cry out to Him always not just in times of troubles. He wants to be part of our lives as we surrender our lives to Him. He wants us to experience His love in a personal way. Lets have a heart that is open to the invitation He made when He bore our sin and shame on the cross. Lets not wait for another calamity to tell us that there is a big,strong,powerful God out there who can shake the earth in a split second yet desires for a personal relationship with a tiny living creature living on a spec of dust in this vast universe; thats me and you. Now is the time for repentance. Now is the time for sweet communion with the Lord Jesus Christ. The decision is yours.
