Reader question: My son is 11 months old and is still nursing. Around 7 months we started baby led weaning and intended to follow his lead. He didnt show much interest in swallowing foods, just chewing and tasting them. At his 9 month check up, the doctor was concerned that he wasnt gaining in weight or height to place him within normal range on the WHO growth charts. She instructed me to start forcing him to eat 3 solid meals a day with snacks between and to follow a regular nursing schedule. After 4 weeks, we checked to see if he was growing. He had grown slightly, but she ordered a blood and urine test to check for usual causes of failure to thrive. All of his levels came back normal, but the doctor was still concerned and recommended we take him to an endocrinologist and nutritionist. He is developmentally on track and is a happy child. I was just wondering if other parents have experienced anything similar. I know you arent doctors and you dont know my child so Im not looking for justification on disobeying his doctors orders, dont worry. Id just appreciate some hard won experience thanks!
