Reading Pale Blue Dot (again) the sequel to the original Cosmos by Dr Carl Sagan. One of the interesting points that he explores is that if aliens were examining the Earth for intelligent life (no puns (this time)) that looking objectively at the planet it would look like automobiles are the primary inhabitants of our planet. They leave to go to other places in the morning. The return to their point of origin some 8 hours later. Some of them protect themselves by going into protective enclosures. (garages) and then repeat that pattern for several of the planet rotations. Its interesting to me that my car could be mistaken for the dominate life form on our planet.
