Reading about the big time Democratic Party political donors who made racial jokes about President Obama is why I have always wished Pennsylvania had an open primary. Its no surprise to me that this happened. Another reason why its important to educate yourself and not let the media make it seem like every Democrat is working in the best interest of African-Americans and the poor. I remember registering as an Independent when I reached voting age only to learn that Independents cant vote in Pennsylvania primaries. I immediately thought: Well thats bullshit. Even an 18 year old knows bullshit when he sees it. A mentor gave me an article about Hardy Williams, who labeled himself an independent democrat because he was a Democrat when it best served his constituency - but an independent because he, like most African-American politicians of his time, knew that the Democratic machine in Pennsylvania was just as prejudiced as the Republican Party at the end of the day. I switched to Democrat because thats the only way my vote counts in this awkward place where most Democrats are about as progressive as Texas Senator Ted Cruz. Im sure some big time Democrat with hood cred or one of the African-American leaders who make a living getting paid by insensitive people to say They arent a racist - theyre my friend and have done a lot for the black community, will come to save the day. When those leaders vouch for them, what it really means is that they donated $10,000 in scholarships, bikes, and turkeys to black people (sigh) and $5,000 to the leaders wallet... The big time Democratic political donors will then issue a teary apology and hire two black interns to prove that the diversity and inclusion conversation has started and will continue. It was a learning experience. Its like there is a Ive Been Outed As A Closet Racist Handbook. What I will say - is that Im glad racial insensitivity hurts people financially. You want to be a bigot - thatll be $10,000. Lets make a concerted effort to raise the price tag on racism. $10,000 is really being a sell-out. Next time you out a racist - make them fork over some real money before we start labeling them our friends. We can get rich off of this! Im joking - but then again - there are people who think this way in real life. Politics... Race.... and Business... as usual. Do better Americans.
