Who knows. In the end, it didn’t matter. There was another savior on this day. Nagpatalo sa umpisa, bumawi sa dulo. May ala-pompiyang pa na finisher. FPJ Simon. The Scoring Apostle. That nickname has always been one of my least favorites in the PBA. Sure I get the play on words. He is Peter (June) Simon after all. And yeah, he can fill the bucket like few can. But it was always too long of a monicker, too much of a mouthful, and frankly, an awkward looking hashtag. But man is it fitting. The baseline jumper Simon hit off the spin to seal San Mig Coffee’s victory over Talk N Text looked easy. It wasn’t. Go to the court right now and see if you can make that same shot at least 5 times in a row. Go. Don’t worry, i’l wait. ……. See? Told you it was tough. Anyway, my point is, PJ Simon took the big shot Wednesday night. Because James wasn’t there. Simon’s hit big ones before, but the primary target was always Yap. They went to him on this particular sequence mainly because Yap wasn’t there. That’s the blunt truth of it all. The reason he’s special is because, PJ knows all this. He understands all this. He embraces all this. He may always be SMC’s Robin, but when it’s big shot time, he’s better than most other teams’ Batmans.
