Reading the SOTU since I missed it. I like that Obama wants to - TopicsExpress

Reading the SOTU since I missed it. I like that Obama wants to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and I like that he wants to invest more in fuels that are sustainable. However, he mentioned natural gas long before he got to solar power. I dont understand why we arent investing nearly everything we can in solar and wind power. Can you imagine the implications not only for the environment but for world peace if we all used renewable, sustainable resources? Maybe natural gas is better than oil (certainly if it will keep us from declaring war on Middle Eastern countries), but the sun is the cleanest and most renewable energy source we have. We should eliminate not only our dependence on foreign oil, but on oil itself. However, over all Obamas speech looks good and inspiring. Lets hope he can actually keep us from going to war with Iran and that he really does close Guantanamo (though hasnt he been supposedly going to do that for such a long time like since his first term?). However words like vigilant and aggressively pursuing terrorist networks sound like code words for fighting wars. In Yemen, Somalia, Iraq and Mali, we have to keep working with partners to disrupt and disable these networks. In Syria, well support the opposition that rejects the agenda of terrorist networks. So these must be all the places where were really at war. So tell me about that Nobel Peace prize that Obama got again. It just seems to me that in the twenty-first century, we ought to be able to move to renewable energy and find peaceful ways of settling our problems that dont involve war.
