Reading the Word this morning...Matthew specifically. Its very apparent to me that the reason that the Pharisees crucified Jesus was because they didnt like what He had to say. We know that it was part of the plan regardless, and necessary for the sacrifice of sins. But that was the root of their anger and rejection of Him. The Word says that people will reject truth and believe anything that their itching ears want to hear. It started before Jesus, with people covering their ears when prophets would warn them. But it led to death in Jesus situation. A brutal, torturous death. Stephen also comes to mind...he was stoned for speaking the truth. After seeing a church filled with thousands listening to someone preach something completely opposite of truth, and hearing them applaud a lie... I see the pattern hasnt changed. People still choose to listen to the sugar-coated words instead of truth. Truth may sting at first, but it brings fruit later...if we yield and accept it. His own people rejected and crucified him for speaking truth. The only thing that could set them free. May we not be blind or deaf to Him. May we not crucify truth in favor of lies.
