Reading the latest from Northern Ireland just makes me sad. When - TopicsExpress

Reading the latest from Northern Ireland just makes me sad. When justice becomes politicised by the politics of identity everyone loses. In Scotland, while we debate our common future, I pray we do it with a generosity of spirit. I pray we respect one another. I pray we decline to use the divisive rhetoric that questions the loyalty or patriotism of those with whom we disagree. I pray we build a commonwealth in which those with different aspirations for our nation may feel at home. And we are gracious to those who will be disappointed with the outcomes. I pray we salute and respect politicians for their public service, even as we vote for their opponent. I pray we seek to unite rather than divide, to build up rather than to tear down. Let us never be petty enough to quibble over someones flag, and let us oppose with all our might the destructive paranoia that sees secret conspiracies in every utterance. Yes Scotland, we are truly better together - and that wherever we end up being governed from. I believe the type of nation we want to be will be revealed in the days leading up to September, perhaps more than on the day itself. So, lets work on getting that right.
