Ready for the race? Part 1 1. Know your position Genesis 3:9-10 This is often the most difficult step for the majority of us. We know where wed like to be. We have aspirations. We do lots of wishing and hoping. But wishful thinking will not get us anywhere unless we determine our position. A runner cannot start a race just anywhere along the course, theres a specific starting line. Otherwise they will get disqualified. Theres also a specific stance in which they must position themselves, otherwise theyre setting themselves up for injury and failure. The same way that a GPS cannot determine a route for you unless it first figures out and calculates your current location. Likewise, in our spiritual race and personal objectives, many times we fail to position ourselves at the starting line. Many times we want to skip steps and processes, we want to rush and jump ahead and we break the rules and fail to prepare ourselves for the journey. But this first step is absolutely necessary to ensure success. Identify where you are today. Evaluate your present situation, your current habits, the state of your heart, mind and relationships. You cannot seek the right help until you recognize and accept the problem. You must be honest with yourself and begin taking responsibility for your choices and actions. Its time to stop playing the blame game. You cannot continue to allow the actions of others to dictate your present and future. Just because one friend betrayed you, it does not mean you cannot encounter a trustworthy friend ever again. Just because a past relationship failed miserably, it doesnt mean that you cannot heal, forgive and allow God to restore a relationship or bring you the right person at the right time. Just because you were disappointed by someone at or from church before, it doesnt mean that you should cease to pursue God first and seek growth in Him in a healthy spiritual family. Stop expecting for everyone and everything to change so that things can start looking up for you. Change needs to start with you. Thats why this first step is essential. Dont skip it. Dont neglect it. Take some time with God so that He can search you and begin His transformation from the inside out! Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Psalm 139:23 I challenge you today to sit down with God, think, evaluate, recognize, repent. You cannot go anywhere until you start here!
