Rebecca Bruner, Stuart Letter: Boaters, dont bypass rivers; they are calling out to you Im sadly concerned that we get on our pleasure boats and yachts and head straight to the ocean. Have we decided we dont need the rivers? Have we decided we only need them to get from point A to point B? Have we decided the rivers just get us to our destination — the wide-open, clear blue sea? Full of fish just for me? But the Indian River and St. Lucie River say: I am the water around your strong docks, your lovely boathouses, your fine marinas, all your boats are living on me. I fear you just jump in those pleasure boats and yachts and head straight to the sea, and dont care anymore about me. Full-throttle ahead you cruise on the back of me just to arrive at the sea, and now you have forgotten how beautiful and alive I too could be. Grant Gilmore, a senior scientist with Estuarine, Coastal and Ocean Sciences Inc., said last year in this newspaper: Our problem is, driving across the bridge and looking at the lagoon, its going to look the same whether its dead or alive. I think by now we all know the river is on its last leg. Death is near. So I plead for our river and ask you to not give up. Fight for the life of and in our rivers. We rally Sunday at Phipps Park 10 a.m. Theres power in numbers. We are a beautiful community here in Martin County and we need to show it and prove it to the officials who can help. TY TCPALM for correcting my grammar !!!!
