Recalling runs of 2014..... At the end of March, thanks to a Walmart International Logistics Conference, I had the chance to visit Switzerland and the UK. The Switzerland leg of the trip was quick, all of 24 hours, with time spent in Zurich and the surrounding areas. We landed in Zurich around 11am on March 30 having made a connecting flight in London following the overnight flight from Toronto. Advice had been given to me to stay awake as long as I could to offset the jet lag, so after checking in at the hotel by the airport in Zurich I went for what turned out to be a 14km run. It was a truly beautiful day. The temperature was around 12 degrees and the sun was shining, so on went the shorts and t-shirt. I had seen a bike path just outside the hotel and followed some rollerbladers as they zoomed by the back of the hotel. As we were right by the airport, I didnt expect to find anything other than streets weaving through an industrial area, so I was more than pleasantly surprised to find a recreational path that ran the entire length of the airport property. And as it was Sunday, and the weather was awesome, it looked to me like most of Zurich was out for a run, or a ride, or a skate, or a stroll. I ran the path from end to end as the planes came and went on the runway beside, and then climbed hills that led to parks on other legs of the recreational path. In the distance were the Alps with sun kissed snow on their peaks. It was a picture perfect run, for which I didnt have a camera! When the run was done, I took the train into downtown Zurich to see the sites and have a pint or two. A memorable visit, however brief, made all the more enjoyable by a run that just got better and better with each passing kilometre.
