Receive forgiveness of Sins in the Name of Jesus or in the name of Confession Many people today are so confused about forgiveness of sins. Does forgiveness happen when I confess sin or when I receive forgiveness? Some believe there is only forgiveness of sins in the Name of confession, let me explain. Someone has done something wrong like etc .stealing then they would say in order to receive forgiveness of that sin you must confess it taking 1 John 1:9 clearly out of its context. Just because your Pastor say “you must confess sin in order to receive forgiveness of sins doesn’t make it the truth, even if he has degrees or studied theology…What does the bible say about it! Let me just clarify this, I am against sin, I am not saying we can sin all we want because sin leads to death but 90% of the Church believe you must confess sins because Pastors and Theologians teach them that there is only forgiveness of sins once you confess it. Teaching different to the early Church Fathers or Apostles means teaching another Gospel. So today I don’t want to run to Pastor or Theologians but to scripture. Let me show you what the early Church taught and believed. Scripture has to interpret scripture. Let’s start off with Acts. in Acts whenever someone came to the sense of need of Salvation they were always receiving forgiveness of sins in the Name of Jesus not in the Name of confession or religion. Even leading someone to Christ Paul says confess Christ Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; but when we lead someone to Christ we say “Make Jesus Lord, invite Him into your Heart and ask for forgiveness of sins” The above is not Biblical at all. We have to things Biblically and not religiously. 1. Acts 16 the Centurion asks “what must I do to be saved” Paul’s direct answer is” BELIEVE IN THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AND YOU SHALL BE SAVED” not the today’s religious answer make Jesus Lord, invite Him into your heart and confess your sins. Acts 16:27-31 27 And when the jailer had been roused out of sleep and had seen the prison doors opened, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped. 28 But Paul cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Do yourself no harm, for we are all here!” 29 And he called for lights and rushed in and, trembling with fear, he fell down before Paul and Silas, 30 and after he brought them out, he said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved, you and your household.” NASB Confession of Sins for forgiveness or JESUS finished work! Acts 2:38-39 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 “For the promise is for you and your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God shall call to Himself.” NASB Acts 26:14-18 14 “And when we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew dialect, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’ 15 “And I said, ‘Who art Thou, Lord?’ And the Lord said, ‘I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. 16 ‘But arise, and stand on your feet; for this purpose I have appeared to you, to appoint you a minister and a witness not only to the things which you have seen, but also to the things in which I will appear to you; 17 delivering you from the Jewish people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending you, 18 to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God, in order that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me. ‘ NASB Now you might say “so how do I get forgiveness of sins if I don’t confess it”? Acts 10:39-44 39 “And we are witnesses of all the things He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem. And they also put Him to death by hanging Him on a cross. 40 “God raised Him up on the third day, and granted that He should become visible, 41 not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen beforehand by God, that is, to us, who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead. 42 “And He ordered us to preach to the people, and solemnly to testify that this is the One who has been appointed by God as Judge of the living and the dead. 43 “Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins.” 44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message. NASB Simply receive forgiveness of Sins in the Name of Jesus Acts 13:38-39 38 “Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, 39 and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses. NASB This is the core of the Gospel! It is the foundation of the Gospel of Grace. From above scriptures we can clearly see that we receive forgiveness of sins in the Name of Jesus. Not because we are smart or intelligent but because Jesus sacrificed His life for us, He laid down His Life, His blood was shed for us for the forgiveness of sins. I want to leave this last verse with you, Ephesians 1:7 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace. I hereby declare to you that we have forgiveness of sins in the Name of Jesus and not in the name of confession. Paul says in Galatians 1:6-8 6 I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel; 7 which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you, and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8 But even though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed. NASB If forgiveness of sins is preached any other way than in the Name of Jesus it means it is another Gospel, a Gospel of a different kind - Daniel
