Receiving my Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award from Gautier Civitan Club President Vivian Dailey. What a wonderful honor! I happily accept the award, although I know that I am far from the most outstanding citizen in our community. I am thankful for being accorded this great honor at the twilight of my life, after many years of service to Civitan and to the Church and to our Community. There are many others more worthy than I am. However, I do accept the honor, along with the many other blessings that are being given me at this point in my life. Please allow me to say, Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. ... My childhood hero, Red Skelton, a wonderful comedian and pantomime artist, had a delightful television show when I was a little boy. We faithfully watched him every week. I remember that he had a small son who died of Leukemia, even after Red went to great lengths to have every possible treatment done to save his little boy. At the end of each show, Red Skelton would thank the people for being there, and would end by saying the following short sentence. If it is good enough for Red Skelton, it is good enough for me.
